The Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, Anjani Kumar, held a video conference on Tuesday to discuss the importance of protecting the dignity of women officers in the police force. He urged Station House Officers (SHOs) to create a safe and supportive environment for women officers, and to take any complaints of harassment or discrimination seriously.
Anjani Kumar also spoke about the importance of working together between the Forensic Science Laboratory Division (FSL) and the Investigation Officers (IOs). He said that the FSL can play a vital role in ensuring the convictions of suspects in criminal cases, but that this can only be achieved if the IOs submit the right set of questions along with the samples sent for testing.
“Sending proper questionnaire will help the scientist conducting the test to understand the specific need of the investigation officer and work accordingly,” DGP Anjani Kumar said.
The workshop was attended by 792 IOs, who were given training on how to improve the quality of their investigations and how to better utilize the resources of the FSL.
DGP, Anjani Kumar’s comments come at a time when there has been increasing focus on the issue of gender equality in the police force. In recent years, there have been a number of high-profile cases of sexual harassment and discrimination against women officers.
Anjani Kumar’s comments are a welcome step, and it is important that SHOs take his words to heart. By creating a safe and supportive environment for women officers, the police force can help to attract and retain more women, and can build a more inclusive and effective police force for all.
